Our EPA-certified Aerosol Can Recycling Systems safely convert containers into valuable scrap metal. Easily transform spent aerosols from solid hazardous waste into non-hazardous recyclable materials. Choose from five models with two filter styles to suit your site's needs and budget.

Units mount to 30 or 50 gallon drums for ease of use when puncturing aerosol products. The angled pin always ensures a clean puncture on steel or aluminum cans. Filter cartridges contain odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). All systems include a ground wire to prevent static build up during use.

These metal can recycling systems are suitable for all aerosols including de-greasers, hairspray, sunscreen, and spray paint cans. They are ideal for industries using aerosol cans, including manufacturing, automotive, and municipalities.

Waste management and disposal guidelines typically require aerosol cans to be sealed in a drum. That's because spray cans are considered hazardous for two reasons. Either because they still contain residual hazardous materials, or, they remain pressurized. Cans that still contain flammable propellants may potentially explode at landfills. Due to these hazards, companies that do not properly dispose of aerosol products risk fines from the Environmental Protection Agency. Your company also pays to send full drums for processing as hazardous waste at a landfill or facility.

Safe and easy-to-use systems

All units feature durable, rust and corrosion resistant materials so require minimal maintenance. Components are made with aircraft-grade aluminum and 308 stainless steel. Systems are lightweight, portable, and require no power source to function.

The non-sparking piercing pin resists wear, even after use on 10,000 cans. The systems' ground wire helps prevent static electricity build up during operation.

Installation

These aerosol can recycling systems easily mount on a 30- or 55-gallon drum, with a standard 2" and ¾" bung.

Both styles of two-piece filter (high efficiency and Colormetric) thread into the drum's 3/4in bung.

The puncturing unit threads into the 2in bung (when punctured, the aerosol can contents drain directly into the drum). Rotate the unit clockwise so that the ground support plate firmly engages the the drum's rim.

Next, install the anti-static grounding wire. Attach the wire's ring terminal to the brass screw on the puncturing unit's ground support plate. Fasten the other end of the wire to any nearby ground source.

Operation

Using the recycling systems is simple and fast, with an easy to follow instruction sign for your wall. A how-to guide also comes attached to the unit.

First, remove the aerosol container's plastic button cap. Then insert the can into the system's housing sleeve, nozzle end down. Tighten the lock knob to secure the can, then use the handle to puncture the container. It takes approximately 20 seconds for the can's pressure and propellant contents to release into the collection drum.

Release and remove the empty can which is now ready for safe disposal in your recycling bin. The hardened steel pin cleanly punctures metal cans so there are no sharp or jagged edges to worry about.

System options

Two-part Colormetric filters capture odors and VOCs that may release when puncturing spray cans. The bottom coalescing filter has a nine month or 2,250 can use life (changing the upper cartridge twice). The top carbon cartridge life is three months or 750 cans. It has a saturation time-strip indicator to help eliminate the guesswork of change-outs.

The two units with a high-efficiency combination carbon filter also capture VOCs but have a 33% extended filter life, reducing change outs to save you time and money.

Super, premium and dual compliant systems come with a convenient built-in can counter for waste tracking. Super and dual compliant systems also include a padlock for added security and tamper resistance. Our premium system is ideal for high volume processing applications with its ergonomic activation wheel and fully enclosed puncture unit.

Technical Information

• Systems are compatible with industry standard sized cans (domed mini, standard and jumbo) at a maximum height of 8½-in (215-mm).
• Units mount directly into a 2" bung on a 30- or 55-gallon closed-head steel drum.
• Always operate this equipment in a well ventilated area, or, in an outdoor location.
• Safety goggle eye-wear must be worn while using the can recycling system.
• Contents of the collection drum should not exceed more than 70% capacity. One 55-gallon drum can collect contents from over 4,000 spent aerosol units.
